HWY 289
« on: May 09, 2008, 09:21:52 AM »
Road Name: Highway 289
Road Location: Pictou County/Halifax County (leads to Halifax/Pictou County crossing Guysborough County)
Road Type: Straight, very few tight turns
Road Condition: Fair (rough section between Lansdown and HWY 336 Junction)
Distance: About 50KM
Posted Speed Limit: 80-90KM/h

Comments / Notes: Nice drive out the back woods.  For me it starts at exit 20 (hwy104) and leads to Dean via the hwy336 junction.  If you go past the junction it will take you into Stewiack.  Road has a pretty rough section between Landown (about 15min in from Exit 20) untill just before the junction.  It lasts about 15min and then its clear sailing, the rough section is still pretty passable over all though.  Quite a bit of forestry equipment is run through the road, so watch for trucks and mud on the road.  You'll get to see a few small waterfalls and some good fishing spots.  Not many houses over all, and cell phone coverage sucks untill after the junction.  I see quite a few riders during the summer traveling though, mostly Cruisers.   Just before the junction there is a small park that you can stop and take a rest in if needed. I see bikers in there quite frequently and almost all are friendly and will strike up a conversation if you aproach them.  I will post some pictures later on tonight.

Just an update on this road, the rough section has gotten worse this year from heavy truck traffic, I strongly recommend going slow if you havn't come across the road this year.

Some cold patching was done over the road, and I guess some more is planned for this year.  Not the best patching, but better then nothing
